SUMMER JOHNSON:
This is the award-winning Public Health Review Morning Edition for Thursday, September 26, 2024.
I'm Summer Johnson.
Now, today's news from the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials.
SHEENA PATEL:
I think at the core of it, it's patient care. I mean, I think when data flows to the right people at the right time in a usable, digestible way, at the end of the day, it benefits the patient.
JOHNSON:
Dr. Sheena Patel, with CRISP Shared Services is talking about the new National Implementation Center Program focused on data modernization. CRISP Shared Services is one of the key collaborators in the program through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant, or PHIG.
PATEL:
We partner with both public and private sectors, and that includes governments, healthcare systems, and community organizations to really create tailored health data solutions that strengthen local health ecosystems across the board.
JOHNSON:
CRISP Shared Services will use the flexible infrastructure they already have to support the implementation center program.
PATEL:
We know that the first year of the IC program is focused on e-case reporting and immunizations, and we are very well positioned to provide solutions essentially at any point within these workflows where a public health agency may have identified a gap or a need.
JOHNSON:
Patel says an important part of the project is the built in sustainability.
PATEL:
None of this makes sense. If you can implement something for the duration of the grant, and then you're asking yourself, I'm now dependent on this solution, how do I keep it going? And how do I maintain you know, this product or this solution, you know, in the long term. So we're really dedicated to helping you figure that out.
JOHNSON:
If you still have questions about the Implementation Center Program, the last office hours opportunity is today, September 26 at 4pm Eastern time. You can sign up using the link in the show notes.
Directors of Public Health Preparedness from across the country will gather next week at the ASTHO annual meeting, specifically for these leaders. Here's ASTHO's Lisa Peterson.
LISA PETERSON:
The annual Directors of Public Health Preparedness Meeting provides an opportunity for jurisdictional preparedness directors to connect with one another and federal partners to review the activities and collaborations of the past year and then look forward and discuss emerging trends and topics for the coming year.
JOHNSON:
Peterson gives us a preview of this year's meeting topics.
PETERSON:
This year we've got some discussions on looking at post election public health. What do things look like after an election, in terms of just the public health infrastructure, and the things that we need to champion after any election. federal partners
JOHNSON:
Federal partners will also be there to engage with public health preparedness directors.
PETERSON:
And we're also really excited to have some discussions again with our federal partners. We've got leaders from Department of Homeland Security, Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response, CDC, and others to hear from their perspective in terms of the federal collaboration in terms of preparedness and response,
JOHNSON:
The meeting's next week. It begins on Monday, September 30 and runs through Wednesday, October 2.
Also today, the CDC has issued a health update for mpox through the Health Alert network. The advisory details the latest in prevention strategies and vaccination recommendations. You can use the link in the show notes to read the full story.
Finally, on tomorrow's newscast:
DIANE HALL:

Have a great day.
